On June 7th, 2021, mission 73 of the analog space station Habitat Marte started in partnership with the Brazilian Space Agency – AEB. This is a virtual mission from Habitat Marte. Habitat Marte is a research project of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte – UFRN, and is coordinated by Professor Julio Rezende from the Department of Production Engineering.
The 73 mission of Habitat Marte comprises 26 students and professors from state schools, federal institutes, universities, colleges and public and private institutions from several Brazilian states and also an international student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Florida).
The missions organized by Habitat Marte have already had more than 300 participants from 29 countries. In the virtual missions, it is discussed and imagined how a future station on Mars can work, discussing various aspects such as: food production, energy generation, health, psychology, management, engineering, space exploration, safety, rockets, among other topics of education and research.
In the partnership, the Brazilian Space Agency – AEB was responsible for disseminating the entries, contributing to more than 90 subscribers for this mission from various places and even from abroad, and Habitat Marte is responsible for all operational details of the mission.
The analog space station Habitat Marte maintains its facilities in the rural area of Caiçara do Rio do Vento, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, with its research focused on self-sustainability in the caatinga ecosystem, verifying parallels on how sustainability can be found in future exploration operations from Mars and Moon, noting: power generation, water and sewage management, and food production in closed systems.
More details about the functioning of the missions can be found on the Twitter and Instagram profile @HabitatMarte at www.habitatmarte.com, on the Youtube channel www.youtube.com/HabitatMarte or with the coordinator Prof. Julio Rezende (84 99981-8160).
