The Braziian Mars analog research station Habitat Marte carried out for the first time the preparation of meal that were grown in the BioHabitat greenhouse, according to the operation of an aquaponics system. Lettuce and basil were used in food preparation.
The Organic Waste Treatment Station (ETROS) is being prepared, which will support the treatment of fish that are also produced through the aquaponics system in operation in Habitat Marte. Tilapia created on Habitat Mars will be an important source of protein for members of Habitat Mars crews.
Mission 17 was attended by Davi Souza (chief scientist), Vinicius Richele (Mission Research Assistant) and Professor Julio Rezende (mission commander). The mission took place on June 28 and 29, 2019. The complete mission report (in Portuguese) is available at: www.HabitatMarte.com.
